The Pacific clinical research training fellowship provides an opportunity for medical, dental and allied Pacific health professionals to undertake a PhD or equivalent qualification. A salary, university fees, and research expenses are available for up to three years full-time or four years part-time. The fellowship provides up to $100,000 per annum for salary, fees and ACC levy; and research costs to a maximum of $20,000 over the three-year period.
To be eligible for this fellowship, you'll need to be a New Zealand citizen or hold New Zealand residency, and be of indigenous Pacific descent (you can find our description of Pacific peoples on page 3 of the 2020 Pacific CDA application guidelines below). You can apply if you're a practising medical graduate, dental graduate, psychologist, nurse, or another graduate with research ability, background training and expertise in fields relevant to clinical research. You must have a current clinical role and enrol for an appropriate postgraduate qualification that has a research component (for example, medical and dental graduates progressing to MD or PhD, or nurses and other health professionals progressing to MHSc, DPH, MPH or PhD). You'll also need to identify a suitable research training environment and develop a research training programme in consultation with the proposed supervisor and head of the relevant academic department(s).
Firstly, you'll need to register your intention to submit an application for this fellowship. Registration must be completed online via HRC Gateway. Following registration, you'll need to submit a full application online via HRC Gateway using the 2020 Pacific health CDA application form below and then send a hardcopy of this application to the HRC.
