2025 Sir Thomas Davis Te Patu Kite Rangi Ariki Health Research Fellowship

This fellowship recognises the contributions that Sir Thomas Davis Te Patu Kite Rangi Ariki has made to clinical practice and biomedical and public health research in a distinguished career spanning 62 years in the Cook Islands, New Zealand, and the US. It supports emerging Pacific researchers who have demonstrated outstanding potential to develop into highly-skilled researchers and is designed to contribute towards better health outcomes for Pacific peoples, families, and communities.

The total value of the fellowship is $600,000 over four years, comprising a total of $100,000 for research expenses and $500,000 for salary and all other associated costs.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this fellowship, you'll need to be a New Zealand citizen or hold New Zealand residency, and be of indigenous Pacific descent. You must also have held a PhD (or an equivalent degree) for a minimum of six years but no more than ten years.

If you've been awarded more than one HRC project as a first-named investigator, or equivalent support (value/term), you won't be eligible for this fellowship.

Usually, successful applicants will be involved full-time in research, however, we do consider applicants who wish to undertake part-time research subject to certain conditions.
