2025 Clinical Practitioner Research Fellowship

This fellowship provides an opportunity for a clinician with a proven track record of research, and who is currently practising and employed by a healthcare organisation, to undertake a programme of research. For the purposes of this fellowship, clinical practice includes the delivery of community and public health services. An essential feature of this fellowship is that it promotes the growth of the clinician's research activities, thereby benefiting healthcare in New Zealand. The fellowship will cover base salary, ACC and superannuation, and provide $50,000 per annum for research expenses.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this fellowship, you'll need to be a New Zealand citizen or hold New Zealand residency, and be no more than 20 years out of PhD or postgraduate medical studies (we'll consider exceptions for time spent outside the research environment, for example, for parental leave or illness). You must be based in New Zealand and undertake your programme of research and your clinical care responsibilities within New Zealand. You must also be able to show that you'll remain engaged in clinical practice aligned with your research.

Your host institution for this fellowship must be who you're employed with for your clinical practice duties, and they must also agree for you to undertake the specific time commitment required for this fellowship.

Please note: this fellowship can only be held part-time. You must be employed to provide clinical care for at least the same full-time equivalent as the fellowship.
