The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) and Ministry of Health have formed a partnership to fund evaluation research into general practice models of care provided by Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) in New Zealand. This new research initiative presents an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the current general practice models of care, the elements that currently exist in the New Zealand primary care sector for managing system demand and improving patient experience of care, and how they align with the New Zealand Health Strategy and primary health care strategy themes and objectives.
A total funding pool of approximately $1.33 million (exclusive of GST) is available for allocation. The funding partners invite applications for funding of up to $1.33 million (fully-costed, exclusive of GST) and duration of up to two years.
We anticipate that the contracted project will begin as soon as practicable, with funding available for an immediate start (from July 2018). Research proposals should realistically be able to be completed within a 24-month time-frame.
If you're the first named investigator (ie. lead researcher) on a partnership application, you must be based in New Zealand and employed with a New Zealand host organisation.
Collaborating researchers from outside New Zealand can, at the HRC’s discretion, be included as co-investigators on a HRC partnership contract, however, they can't receive direct funding support for their time or institutional costs.
For more information about our contract requirements, please read the HRC rules document under 'Helpful links'.
If you’re applying for funding through this partnership, you’ll need to submit a registration via HRC Gateway. You’ll then need to complete a full application using the 2018 Primary Care Models of Care Evaluation Research application form and the 2018 Primary Care Models of Care Evaluation Research budget. Full applications are submitted via HRC Gateway and a hard copy sent to the HRC.
