The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) and PHARMAC formed a partnership in 2016 to support innovative research and advance the strategic objectives of both organisations. The focus of the 2020 Achieving Equitable Access to Medicines Request for Proposals (RFP) is to fund innovative, high-quality and value-added research that aligns with PHARMAC’s strategic priority to achieve equitable access to funded pharmaceuticals, and the HRC’s focus on building and strengthening the research evidence base to achieve health equity in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The total budget for this RFP is $655,500 (exclusive of GST). The funding partners invite applications for funding of up to $109,250 (exclusive of GST) for 12-month projects and for funding of up to $218,500 (exclusive of GST) for 24-month projects.
If you're the first-named investigator (i.e. lead researcher) on a partnership application, you must be based in New Zealand and employed with a New Zealand host organisation. Collaborating researchers from outside New Zealand can, at the HRC’s discretion, be included as named investigators on a HRC contract. However, the HRC will not contribute to the overhead of the overseas investigator, and the total proportion of contract budget allocated to overseas investigators must not exceed 20 percent.
For more information about our contract requirements, please read the HRC Rules document under 'Helpful links'.
If you’re applying for funding through this partnership, you’ll need to submit a registration via HRC Gateway. You’ll then need to complete a full application using the 2020 Achieving Equitable Access to Medicines RFP Application Form. You will also need to complete the 2020 Achieving Equitable Access to Medicines RFP Budget Form. Full applications are submitted via HRC Gateway.
